Since the terrible disaster that engulfed 2017 the world has struggled to come to terms with the tragic loss of life that occurred at Grenfell Towers that year. Things have been set to change since and the construction industry has been trying to address the fire risks posed in high rise buildings and although certainly overshadowed, yet something that cannot be overlooked is the issues that have been arising with missing or poorly fitted fire barriers in new build housing and smaller blocks of flats.
All of a sudden Bricklayers have a key responsibility and duty to not only produce work of a much higher standard that would be required for the products to be installed correctly, we also have a duty of care to make sure the man working next to us is doing the same. If you say gridlines to us we know what your talking about ... if you say triple corbelled arch we know how to build it. Inside out, from the drawing board to completion. mistakes are costly and we take pride by doing it once and doing it right!
Having worked on many buildings in the last few years we have noted that things have not improved across the board enough to say that this problem is well under way to being tackled. Why you may ask? The simple answer is many bricklayers don't have the skillset to work to such accuracy. For instance what good is a fire barrier if the cavities has spread to the point it doesn't fit. As fire barriers have been changing on larger projects it's important that we get to grips on how to install them properly and efficiently. We have bespoke handmade in house tools to aide the installation of fire barrier insertion ensuring that it stays intact, is installed correctly and has slight compression.
Specialists in ornate Brickwork, in todays world we have so many special and arch packs and so forth and it's to the point that the traditional methods are dying and i feel the industry needs to invest in smaller, medium companies so that more archaic traditional methods are never forgotten
